Discovery Camp Counselor

 

General Responsibilities

The responsibility of the Discovery Camp Counselors is primarily the daily well being and safety of each Discovery Camp (DC) Camper.  The DC Counselors are the leaders for the campers during the course of the day—they lead in the learning times, discussion times, craft times and recreation times.

 

  1. Provide leadership and guidance to all campers.
  2. Take primary responsibility for the health and well-being of campers.
  3. Enforce the rules and policies of camp.
  4. Serve as a Christian role model to campers in personal faith, worship, language, appearance, manners, and health habits.
  5. Complete tasks assigned by the camp directors to complete (e.g. art, devotions, hiking, special group projects, administrative assistant, etc.).
  6. Work together with the entire staff for the welfare of the camp and campers.
  7. Maintain daily cleanliness of Lakeview Lodge area
  8. End of week deep cleaning of Lakeview Lodge
  9. Attend 1 morning staff devotion per week.
  10. Attend weekly evening staff gathering for mutual edification.

 

Responsible to: Discovery Camp Director and Camp Manager

 

Qualifications:

  1. Completion of high school
  2. Active Christian faith and a genuine interest in the faith development of children and youth and the ability to affirm the statement of Faith of LSCA.
  3. Emotional maturity, good moral character, and integrity.
  4. Pass a state run background check and abuse prevention training

 

Essential Functions of Job:

  1. Auditory and visual ability to respond to critical incidents.
  2. Ability to perform routine first aid tasks.
  3. Abilities to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management tech-

niques.

  1. Ability to lead and participate in activities that help all campers be involved and have a successful experience.

 

There are 2 weeks of staff training. There are 7 sessions of Discovery Camp.  If any cancellations in schedule occur due to unforeseen circumstances, you will not be compensated for cancelled sessions.

Campers will arrive daily at 8:00am and leave by 5:15pm.  The counselors are expected to be at LSCA no later than 7:30am and will remain each afternoon until all of the campers have gone home and Lakeview Lodge is tidied.  Each counselor is allowed meals at LSCA in addition to the snacks provided.
