LSCA is excited to move forward with The GROW Project—a collection of essential improvements designed to make our campus more accessible and better equipped to serve our guests.
The most urgent priority is a new pool, with the board-approved design shown below. This investment, along with other planned upgrades, will strengthen our ability to welcome and care for all who come to camp.
We look forward to sharing updates on The GROW Project with our partners as the work continues.
The GROW Project brings together essential repairs and improvements to ensure another 80+ years of ministry in Central Illinois. The most urgent need is a new pool with its bathhouse, plumbing, and patio area. Other priorities include a new steel tent roof, accessibility upgrades, new recreation features, and a prairie grass restoration area.
By uniting long-standing needs under one plan, The GROW Project focuses on camper safety, accessibility, asset protection, and unique outdoor experiences. Our goal is to serve guests in 5 specific ways: Spiritually, Intellectually, Physically, Socially, and Emotionally.
The pool has reached the end of its life and must be fully replaced—including site work, piping, filtration, fencing, and more. As the centerpiece of camp life, it is the first and most urgent priority of The GROW Project. Your support will make a safe, modern pool possible for future campers.
Physical, Social, Emotional
The new pool location currently has a small, insufficient shelter. Adding a proper shelter will provide shaded space for rest, safety, and small group studies—enhancing the pool area for all campers.
Spiritual, Social, Emotional
Adding sidewalks would make camp more accessible for guests with mobility challenges. While paving would be required around the new pool, extending sidewalks to connect the main camp areas is a long-standing goal—and now is an ideal time to bundle this project with other builds.
Physical, Emotional
The Steel Tent roof is old and in poor condition, and it needs to be replaced. The Steel Tent houses both the finished canteen area and the garage, which contains tools and equipment. If the roof were to leak, it could damage these spaces and the items within them, making replacement a critical need.
Completed Late Spring 2025!!!
Spiritual, Intellectual, Social
The playground equipment is used extensively by camp sessions and retreat groups. We would replace the old metal structures with safer, modern equipment that is accessible to visitors with limited mobility. In addition, we would add a second playground by Lakeview Lodge to better support Discovery Camp, along with new equipment for the toddler playground.
Physical, Social
Several buildings have drainage issues that have caused surrounding concrete sidewalks to settle. We would first address the drainage problems and then repair the concrete, improving safety and accessibility for all guests.
The dining hall requires significant repairs. We would address ceiling damage related to a recently resolved light fixture issue and repair areas of the floor where water has caused blistering, ensuring a safe and welcoming space for all guests.
Several areas at camp would be ideal for recreation installations, such as a low ropes course, climbing wall, and archery lanes. These additions would give campers and retreat groups more opportunities to enjoy unique outdoor experiences that they may not encounter elsewhere.
Physical, Intellectual, Social, Emotional.
A hill at LSCA would be ideal for a prairie grass restoration area. This project would attract additional wildlife, create nature-focused meeting spots and trails, and transform an unused, hard-to-maintain slope into a beautiful, functional space for campers and guests.
Physical, Intellectual, Spiritual, Social, Emotional
The shoreline at camp would benefit from the addition of riprap rock to prevent erosion, protecting our waterfront and ensuring a safe, sustainable space for campers and guests.
Completed Spring 2025!!!
Purchasing Cypress Cove was the last major expansion of camp, improving guest safety by consolidating property along the drive. The building has been in use for years, but we would make updates to support our plans for the space, including additional accessible bathrooms, drainage corrections, and interior wall improvements.
Spiritual, Intellectual, Social, Emotional
Lakeview Lodge is ideally situated to serve as a stand-alone retreat center or family camp location, but it would benefit from accessibility upgrades to make it a more welcoming and attractive space for rentals.
Spiritual, Intellectual, Social, Emotional
Some projects remain on our long-term radar beyond The GROW Project, including paved roads and parking, minimalist cabins for retreats, solar power, and initiating a roofing replacement cycle across all buildings. These are future priorities we hope to address as resources allow.
The GROW Project brings together several long-standing needs under one plan. Projects were prioritized to enhance camper safety, improve accessibility, and protect our existing assets. Some were selected to create unique outdoor experiences that make camp more engaging and memorable for all guests.
Some projects are urgent and cannot wait. The most critical is a new pool, including all associated build-out—sidewalks, patio, excavation, piping, and filtration. Our current pool will only remain operable for a few more seasons.
Other projects have been on our radar for years but were not previously addressed. The GROW Project groups them into a single plan, allowing us to complete multiple improvements at once and minimize major projects for years to come. The pool remains the first priority because of its urgency.
No. While patching could extend its life for a few seasons, any renovation that would make it last decades would require bringing the pool and bathhouse up to current code. Our pool and bathhouse are over 50 years old, and code requirements have changed significantly.
Major renovations would require demolishing and rebuilding the bathhouse, along with extensive work on the pool. Currently, the pool operates under a legacy inspection allowance, but any major renovation would remove that leeway. Building a new, fully accessible pool ensures safe, long-term use and responsible stewardship of funds.
The new pool is designed to hold roughly the same volume as the current pool but offers about 20% more surface/swim area. Its U-shape reduces the overall footprint and is scalable—sections can be widened or narrowed based on available funding. Final design may vary slightly after fundraising and approvals, but it will remain functional, safe, and accessible.
Absolutely. Skilled tradespeople or business owners can help by donating labor or materials—for example, fencing around the pool or roofing for the Steel Tent. Some tasks, however, must be completed by licensed professionals to meet IDPH requirements, particularly the pool build. Your support—financial or in-kind—can make a meaningful difference in bringing these projects to life.
Prayer is our foundation. Please join us in praying:
Your time, talent, and resources can make a big difference. In-kind support includes materials, tools, or skilled labor for tasks volunteers can complete—such as fencing, landscaping, carpentry, or painting. Every contribution helps stretch funds and move the project forward.
Monetary donations are essential. Give online via our UltraCamp link below (one-time gift or recurring) or mail gifts to:
